Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy
Pcnl- Percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) is a minimally invasive operative technique utilized to take out large (> 2cms) kidney stones which cannot be managed with other non-invasive methods. During the procedure, a small incision is made at the back in order to gain access to the kidney directly. Then, a small tube is passed through the incision and directed to the place of the stone with the help of X-ray. A laser or another surgical tool is then used to break the stone into fragments, which are then removed through the tube.
